And then it was over

So the snow event is over.  Last Wednesday the first layer came down.  We got about 4 inches by the time it was over.  During a lull, I took some pictures.

Then it hit again and put down another 2-3 inches.  And then came the big freeze overnight.  On Thursday, more snow mixed in with freezing rain all day.  Check out the way the trees sag with the weight of the ice.

The big thaw came on Friday.  Temperatures got up into the 40s and the rain came.  By the afternoon, the trees were nearly bare of snow and the branches were bouncing back.

Too bad the snow and ice on the ground didn't clear up as fast.  It takes a bit longer for that top snow layer to clear down to the ice shell.  Once that melts, then the snow layer closer to the ground can melt off.  It takes awhile.

We were finally able to get out on Saturday, so we both went to work.  I missed three days because I can't do my job from home, so I spent a full day getting caught up.  Pam only went in to check the office and collect whatever mail had piled up.

We did not get hit as badly as some areas.  We never lost power.  Although some branches fell from some of the taller pines, nothing hit any structures.  Tacoma and Olympia were measuring their snowfall in feet.

Sunday morning we had this slushy mess.

But it didn't keep us from heading out for groceries and then running over to Target before the championship games started at noon.

New England beat Baltimore in the AFC Championship game.  San Francisco lost to New York in the NFC Championship.  Even though they beat my 49ers, I'll be rooting for the Giants in the Super Bowl.
