Actresses Who Practice Muay Thai Posted: 28 Jun 2011 07:23 AM PDT Many actors and actresses are a martial art practitioners, and they love to show some of their moves on screen, whether for movies or TV series. We have been familiar with names such as Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jacky Chan, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van-Damme, Cynthia Rothrock, Kelly Hu, or Steven Seagal as stars with martial arts training from various disciplines. Unfortunately, only few are trained in Muay Thai. Muay Thai is a combat sport from Thailand. As the name refers, the best place to train this martial art is of course at its homeland in Muay Thai Camp Thailand. Muay Thai is kinda similar to kick-boxing, but more lethal, as it also uses various clinching techniques besides elbow and knee-hitting. Because of its danger, only few women are interested to learn this sport. Among the few are some of our favorite actresses, such as:
Scarlett Johansson Scarlett Johansson plays as Black Widow in Iron Man 2. For you who have seen this movie, you must be noticed that she done a lot of fighting scenes. To prepare for her role, Scarlett Johansson learned all manner of combat styles, which including gymnastics, Muay Thai, kick-boxing and regular boxing.
Maria Bello We knew Maria Bello from her role as Dr. Anna Del Amico in ER (1997-2009). She also took part in Mr. & Mrs. Smith TV series, which unfortunately was canceled only after eight episodes. It was for this show that she practiced Muay Thai, which she had to gave up after giving birth to his son, Jackson Blue, in 2001.
Gina Carano Gina Joy Carano is mostly known as American Mixed martial arts fighter, but she is also a model and actress. She is referred to as the "Face of Women's MMA". She began training Muay Thai after she watched her boyfriend training, and has been hooked ever since. She began and remains under the tutelage of Thonsaphon Sitiwatjana, aka "Master Toddy", and amassed a Muay Thai record of 12 -1-1.
Saskia van Rijswijk Saskia van Rijswijk became the world women’s Muay Thai champion in early 80s. Shortly after winning her title, she started dancing, singing and acting. She also started teaching self-defense for women.
Kim Ok-bin Judging from her cute appearance, you won’t guessed that she’s a tough girl. The Korean actress Kim Ok-bin trained in martial arts, and has attained third dan in Hapkido and second dan in Taekwondo. She also practices Muay Thai.
Now you know that many actresses also train Muay Thai. Whether you’re a male or female, don’t you want to be like them? As we’ve previously mentioned, this sport is originated from Thailand, thus it’s the best place to train Muay Thai. You can try Phuket, which not only offers you the best training camp, but also beautiful view, as this place is also known as the pearl of Andaman Sea. So, whatever your intention in training Muay Thai is, whether it’s for health, diet, self improvement, discipline, or even want to be a pro and compete in a tournament, Muay Thai Phuket camp is the best place for you.
