Beyonce Launches New Website Packed With Personal Pics Posted: 05 Apr 2012 11:15 AM PDT Singer’s Tumblr features exotic pictures with Jay-Z, sister Solange and nephew Julez.
For most of her solo career, Beyoncé has been like the Diana Ross of her generation: a glamorous diva who’s wowed us with her prodigious talent and envelope-pushing style while maintaining an arm’s-length distance that gave her a pop royalty air. But on Thursday (April 5), she joined the Lady Gagas and Katy Perrys of the world by taking a dive into the social media pool. For fans of a singer so private she wouldn’t even confirm her marriage to hubby Jay-Z for years, it was a precious peek into the glamorous, globetrotting world of music royalty.
The “Love on Top” star announced the foray with her first tweet, “Hey World, it’s B! I’m so excited to invite you to my new beyonce.com — we’ve been working hard, and it’s finally ready for you XO.” (It’s worth noting that at press time with only one tweet, B’s account already had more than 3.5 million followers.)
And when fans checked into the personal Tumblr she’d set up, well, their dreams were answered. The page is a treasure trove of private moments, from Queen B chilling on exotic vacations with sister Solange, to pics of her arm-in-arm with Jigga, silly Halloween shots, pregnancy photos, arty still lifes and even a 15-second video in which a visibly pregnant Bey walks by a blue ivy tree. Of course, daughter Blue Ivy was born earlier this year and people have been scrambling to figure out the meaning of the name for months. The site also has a number of shots of the singer’s nephew, Julez, and in a message entitled, “I Am,” she explains, “This is my life, today, over the years — through my eyes. My family, my travels, my love. This is where I share with you. This will continue to grow as I do. Love, Beyonce.” What do you think of Beyoncé’s new Tumblr? Let us know in comments below! Drake And Tyga’s Bay Area Sound Gets ‘Love’ From E-40 Posted: 05 Apr 2012 11:15 AM PDT ‘That’s Bay Area-influenced, but they give it up,’ Forty tells ‘RapFix Live’ of ‘The Motto’ and ‘Rack City.’
There’s no question that Bay Area artists have set a number of hip-hop trends. From their slang to their sounds, the rap community in Oakland, San Francisco, Vallejo and other surrounding California cities has contributed quite a bit — even if credit is not always given. “Right now, we got ‘The Motto,’ we got ‘Rack City’ — hit records, smash hits,” E-40 said of Drake’s and Tyga’s respective singles when he appeared on Wednesday’s “Across the board, they killin’ ‘em. That’s Bay Area-influenced, but they give it up. You know Tyga, Drake, it’s all love.”
Tyga’s “Rack City” peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, while Drake’s “The Motto” reached #15. Both songs feature a deep rolling bass line and crisp drum tracks, a beat style popularized by Bay Area artists, including E-40′s “Function” single and LoveRance’s “Up!” Drake, who hails from Toronto, and Tyga, who is from L.A., have credited the Bay with pioneering the sound. Drizzy even shot his video for “The Motto” in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and featured local ambassadors like E-40 and Mistah F.A.B. in the clip. Forty Water is happy to see his hometown getting its sonic just due but also remarks that there is some resistance in the industry to Bay Area artists. That’s why local artists haven’t fully capitalized off of their own ingenuity, he argued. E-40 believes local Bay Area rappers have plenty of songs like “Rack City,” but he takes nothing away from the YMCMB spitter. “No disrespect to Tyga, he doin’ his job. He got the platform; he spit good game on there,” Forty said. “The lyrics got a lot to do with it too, it wasn’t just the beat. The man showed up.” Do you hear the Bay influence in today’s music? Exclusive ‘Savages’ Trailer: Blake Lively Tells One Sexy Story Posted: 05 Apr 2012 11:15 AM PDT See the first trailer for the new Oliver Stone flick, starring Blake Lively and Taylor Kitsch, right here.
On Wednesday, we revealed the first scintillating bits of footage from Oliver Stone‘s next movie, “Savages,” and if you’re looking for more, you are in luck. We have your exclusive first look at the full trailer for “Savages.” “Savages” is a story about the 99 percent and the one percent. As Blake Lively‘s O explains, her two boyfriends, Ben and Chon, played by Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch, respectively, represent two halves of a successful drug business. “Ben went to Berkeley and double-majored in business and botany. He takes 99 percent of the violence out of the business. Other one percent? Well, that’s where Chon comes in.” Things are all sunshine and ménages à trios for O, Ben and Chon until a Mexican drug cartel decides that it wants to expand northward. A federal agent, played by John Travolta, gives the pot growers the heads-up, but the cartel figures out their shared The rest of the trailer plays out like the fever dream you’d expect from the notorious Stone. There are certainly elements of a bromantic “Natural Born Killers” and the border setting of “U Turn.” The business partners don’t take O’s kidnapping lightly, and Chon goes as far as stabbing the federal agent. It all amounts to one sexy trailer with a cast that rivals any major release this year. Salma Hayek breaks bad and plays the head of the Mexican cartel, while Benicio Del Toro and recent Academy Award nominee Demián Bichir play her underlings. Uma Thurman and Emile Hirsch also have supporting roles. “Savages” also stands out for being Kitsch’s third big release of the year. He headlined the now infamous “John Carter,” and he also co-stars in “Battleship,” due out on May 18. Check out the exclusive first full trailer for “Savages” above. “Savages” is scheduled to open in theaters on July 6. Tokio Hotel Call Musical March Madness Championship ‘Totally Unexpected’ Posted: 05 Apr 2012 11:15 AM PDT ‘That’s just incredible, thank you so much for your support,’ frontman Bill Kaulitz says in message to fans.
One day after upsetting Green Day and shocking the world in MTV’s Musical March Madness championship game, Tokio Hotel are still basking in their post-title glow — and they want to share that happiness with their fans.
TH’s Bill and Tom Kaulitz have just released a special video message to their Aliens around the world, thanking them for all their support and for helping guide them to the 2012 MMM championship. “Hey, Aliens! We just heard we won MTV’s Musical March Madness 2012. … That’s just incredible, thank you so much for your support, and it’s unbelievable,” frontman Bill said in the message. “I know it’s been really, really hard because there’s been so many great bands nominated … totally unexpected.” Bill’s brother Tom then chimed in — from behind the wheel of what appears to be a rather large SUV (championship swag!) — with a parting shot that’s sure to anger plenty of fans of those other great bands, accusing them of attempting to bend the rules to bring Tokio Hotel down. But hey, he’s a champ now, and he can pretty much do whatever he wants. “And they tried to cheat!” Tom joked. “And they tried to cheat,” Bill laughed. “Thank you guys so much for voting! And we are so proud to have you guys, and we want to thank you for your patience. I know you’re waiting for the new record and we’re working on it really hard and we hope to see you guys pretty soon. Thank you so much — we’re really proud of you.” Unlike what 2010 MMM champs Coheed and Cambria did in their acceptance speech — 2011 champions Green Day didn’t feel like making one, btw — Bill signed off by blowing a kiss to the camera (his brother flashed the peace sign) and giving one last “thank you” to the TH fans for their undying dedication. And with that, the coronation was complete: Tokio Hotel reign supreme as MMM champs, and until someone knocks them off the throne in next year’s tournament, well, let’s just say we could be seeing a whole lot more kisses being blown. It’s apparently the European way to celebrate a championship title. Check out the results from this year’s tournament in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket!
