Ratings: The Voice, Dancing with the Stars Fall; Raising Hope Rises Posted: 05 Apr 2012 02:47 AM PDT The Voice and Dancing with the Stars faced off on Tuesdays for the first time and it ended in a draw for NBC and ABC. The networks tied in the all-important adults 18-to-49 demographic Tuesday night with a 2.2, but ABC did take the night in terms of viewership (11.8 million vs. 6.25 million), thanks to Dancing (15.4 million, 2.7). Dancing, however, fell 13 percent in the demo, perhaps due to competition from The Voice. Which four singers went home on The Voice? Airing its first results …

Dancing With the Stars: A Pair of Unlikely Frontrunners Posted: 05 Apr 2012 02:47 AM PDT It doesn’t seem to matter that the Season 14 cast of Dancing With the Stars is filled with celebs we’ve known and loved for decades: Gladys Knight, Melissa Gilbert, Jaleel White, Martina Navratilova and Jack Wagner, who was given his walking papers Tuesday night. The fact is that two relative unknowns — classical singer Katherine Jenkins and Latin actor William Levy — are obliterating everyone else in the ballroom with the both the quality of their dancing and sheer animal magnetism: You’d be hard-pressed to find two better looking people on the planet.

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 02:46 AM PDT Following tonight’s episode of American Idol, a compilation album of the songs performed by the Season 11 Top 8 finalists will go on sale on the iTunes Store. Individual songs will also be available for sale. The tracks released on iTunes are studio versions recorded by the finalists under the guidance of “Idol” musical director Ray Chew. “This album showcases the incredible talent embodied by this year’s ‘Idol’ finalists,” said Ray Chew. “These kids are truly amazing, and we’ve given them the kind of production values they deserve.” Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe added, “You listen to these performers and it’s easy to understand the mind-blowing excitement that American Idol has generated this year.” Nigel’s observation is underscored, in part, by the number of fan and media comments about the show on Twitter and other social networking sites, which has skyrocketed this year, running six times higher than last year. The “Idol” finalists were coached by music industry legend Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Records, who worked with every singer throughout the studio sessions to ensure they all performed to their fullest potential. It’s ’80s Week on American Idol! Posted: 05 Apr 2012 02:46 AM PDT We have some totally awesome news for you: It’s ’80s week on American Idol! So what will the contestants sing (and more importantly, what will they wear)? While we all have to wait to find out on Wednesday, here’s a look back at some of the biggest trends of the ’80s – from hair bands to hip-hop – that might inspire the Top 8 finalists. (Want to get an advance peek at the set list each week? Then follow @AmericanIdol on Twitter or like American Idol on Facebook.) Pop Icons The ’80s were definitely the era of pop superstar royalty, giving rise to the King of Pop (Michael Jackson, whose album “Thriller” is still the best-selling album of all time), two Queens (Madonna and Whitney Houston), and Prince. Sadly, we’ve lost two of these legendary performers, but their classic songs and videos will live on. And so will the moonwalk. The ’80s pop icons had looks that were as unique as their sounds. Prince turned the color purple into a fashion statement. Michael, of course, immortalized the single-glove look and favored black and red, while ’80s-era Whitney was all about big hair, big earrings, and fun, bright colors in pastels and neons. Madonna has made a career out of constantly reinventing her sound and look; we will always remember her iconic early ’80s style that inspired millions of girls around the world to try it themselves: dirty bleached-blonde hair, dozens of bracelets and layered necklaces, lingerie worn as outerwear and lacy gloves. Rock Idols Rock also reigned … read more |

Gory Details Revealed in Final Coroner’s Report on Whitney Houston Posted: 05 Apr 2012 01:58 AM PDT The final report on Whitney Houston’s death has been released – and it gives an even more extensive picture of how the pop icon died and what was found at the death scene. As the L.A. County Department of Coroner previously announced, Houston accidentally drowned on February 11 “due to, or as a consequence of” the effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use. The final coroner’s report, obtained Wednesday by “Extra,” states that Houston was discovered by her personal assistant face down in “extremely hot water,” indicated by scalding on Houston’s back. The report also detailed how police found a small spoon with a “white crystal like substance,” in the bathroom, and “white powdery substance” on the counter, along with a portable mirror with traces of the same powder on it. There was an open bottle of champagne in the bedroom, as well as a dozen prescription bottles, including three empty bottles of alprazolam (Xanax), the anti-inflammatory Prednisone, and antibiotics. The Beverly Hills Police Department wrote in their final report that Whitney had a “bloody purge” coming out of her nose, as well as minor abrasions on her face, arms and legs. A possible old needle puncture wound on Houston’s inner left elbow was also found. Toxicology testing turned up cocaine, Benadryl, the muscle relaxant Flexeril, marijuana, Xanax, cocaethylene (produced when cocaine mixes with alcohol) and benzoylecgonin (a primary metabolite of cocaine). Mild emphysema, pulmonary edema and leiomyomas (benign tumors) in her uterus were also detected. Her overall body was clinically described as “well built, muscular and fairly well nourished.” Read the entire report here! One Tree Hill Comes Full Circle and Says Goodbye Posted: 05 Apr 2012 01:58 AM PDT Shows come and go, but every once in a while there’s one that sticks with you — and sometimes you ‘re not even sure why. In 2003, a little show called One Tree Hill debuted, attempting to fill my deep void from the loss of my beloved Dawson’s Creek. From the moment I was introduced to Brooke, Peyton, Lucas and Haley (Nathan had to grow on me), I knew I had made lifelong connections to each of these characters.
